Ropecraft, scrimshaw, and limericks. Aka, why do we bake when we are bored?

I AM the man from Nantucket.

We’re not bored, but we are starting to think up some productive and creative things to do to pass the time.

We’ve come up with long lists of upgrades and “improvements.” Today we are making our flag halyards sexy with pre-measure, calibrated color-coded quick-release markings.

Breakfast was punctuated (see what I did there?) with a robust discussion of the proper structure of a haiku. It’s five, seven, and five. Tomorrow we are planning a salon session on the value of iambic pentameter. It’s gonna be a barn burner.

All poems lead to limerick writing and we had some doozies over breakfast. This is a family blog so I’ll spare you the details. But very creative and colorful, even if not always spot on with the rhyme.

Yesterday we went gonzo on the ship clean. We took a deep dive into both heads, the galley, the cockpit, floors, laundry, and more. It felt good. I don’t know why I love cleaning a boat and hate cleaning at home. Probably need a therapist to unpack that one. Though I do believe what I read once stands:

Saltwater is the cure for anything. Sweat, tears and the sea.

Erin, the reason you can read these blogs (thanks, honey!), sent me the bread recipe I picked for this trip.

I had thought I had downloaded it to my Apple Notes app (an app I rely on heavily out here) but alas I had only downloaded the link. Shore support is critical for a trip like this in my mind. I whipped up my starter and with luck, we’ll have fresh baguettes tomorrow.

Safe Watch. kb OUT.
